Undergraduate
The subject Introduction to Clinical Medicine (ICM) runs through the first five semesters of the course. The foundation semester (ICM1) is devoted to the teaching of basic communication skills. During the following four semesters, students build on these skills as well as developing expertise in medical interviewing and physical examination in a systems-based fashion. ICM 2-5 systems are determined by the Biomedical Science body systems studied each semester.
Early instruction in systems-based clinical skills is a key feature of the medical curriculum. Particular emphasis is placed on the acquisition of effective communication skills, teamwork and professional development.
